How do you farm Rainbow Super Crates in Droid Tycoon?

A Super Crate respawns as the same rarity you just opened, so opening Gold and Diamond crates parks them outside your area. Clear one cluster of spawn points, then farm the two Rainbow crates there and recheck nearby spawns after every open.

Buy Super Crates level 3 before trying the route; Rainbow crates do not spawn without it.

The short answer

A Super Crate respawns as the same rarity you just opened, so opening a Gold crate gives you another Gold crate rather than a chance at a Rainbow. Open the Gold and Diamond crates until they respawn outside a chosen cluster of spawn points, leave them parked there, then farm the 2 Rainbow crates inside the cluster and recheck nearby spawns after every open instead of flying a lap.

Rainbow crates are the only Super Crate that can pay Nova Crystals, at a recorded 1.4% chance once every Rainbow hat is owned, or 0.376% while unowned hats still fill the pool. This route does not improve either number. It increases how many Rainbow crates you reach per hour.

Run DJ R-3X and BB-8 while you do it. Super Crates are World Quests, so DJ R-3X doubles every crate reward, and BB-8 doubles the chip result on top of that. Chips are the one payout both effects hit, which is what makes this one of the best Upgrade Chip routes in the game rather than just a Nova lottery.

What the route costs before it works

Rainbow crates are not on a default account. They unlock on the third Super Crates level in the Nova Shop, and the two-companion setup is a separate purchase. Every piece of it is priced in the shop, and the whole route costs 395 Nova to unlock.

If you have bought one or two Super Crates levels and have never seen a Rainbow crate, that is why. The track is 85 Nova cumulative and the Rainbow unlock is the last level.

How Super Crate spawns work

8 Super Crates sit on the map at once, and that population appears to stay constant. When you open one, another crate of the same rarity immediately respawns at one of the available Super Crate spawn locations, and it can reappear in the exact spot you just cleared.

Regular crates appear to use their own separate spawn locations, so they do not interfere with the setup and you can ignore them while clearing.

The shop wording and the observed population do not agree

The Super Crates level 3 card reads "Unlock Rainbow Crates · Gold 60% · Diamond 30% · Rainbow 10%". The map behaves like a fixed population of 3 Gold, 3 Diamond, 2 Rainbow instead, which is 25% Rainbow by count rather than 10%.

Those describe different things, and Droidex has not verified how a spawn roll and a live population connect, so neither number is presented as the other. The route only depends on the respawn rule, which is directly observable.

Why Rainbows are the only target

Gold and Diamond crates still pay Credits and Upgrade Chips, but Rainbow crates pay more of both and are the only Super Crate that can drop Nova Crystals. The one-hour test recorded a rougher reward split than the reference pool does, and both are worth seeing.

The observed column is one hour of one route, so the gap is what a small sample looks like rather than evidence that the pool changed. The recorded column removes Rainbow hat results, which is the distribution an account rolls against once every Rainbow hat is owned.

Setting up the farming area

You are getting the Gold and Diamond crates to occupy spawn locations you do not care about, so that as many spawn points near you as possible stay open for Rainbows.

• Pick a cluster of Super Crate spawn points that sit close enough to check without a map-length flight. The tested route starts near the beginning of the Ringmaster Course.
• Fly the cluster and open every Gold and Diamond Super Crate in it.
• Keep going until most of those Gold and Diamond crates have respawned somewhere outside the cluster.
• Leave them there. A Gold or Diamond crate parked outside your area occupies a spawn point you do not care about, and it stays parked until somebody opens it.
• Leave the two Rainbow crates alone while you are still clearing.
• Clear Hostile Takeover out of the area first if it is sitting in the cluster you want.

Any part of the map works if it has several Super Crate spawn points close together. What you are looking for is a cluster you can recheck quickly, not a specific landmark.

Run DJ R-3X and BB-8

The companion players call Rex is the Iconic DJ R-3X, and its recorded effect is 2x World Quest Rewards. The card never says "crate", so it looks like the wrong purchase for this route.

Super Crates are World Quests, alongside the other world quests on the map. That is the whole reason DJ R-3X belongs here: the multiplier covers every Super Crate reward by design, not as a quirk.

The recorded BB-8 effect is 100% Upgrade Chips, so it doubles the chip payout and nothing else. Equip the Iconic BB-8, not the Epic standard droid named BB, which is an Astromech worth +3 Pickaxe Level and does nothing for crates.

Chips are the reward both effects hit

DJ R-3X doubles the crate reward because the crate is a World Quest, and BB-8 doubles Upgrade Chips. Chips are the one payout both effects target, so a chip result can pay 4x. That is why this route produces the chip numbers it does rather than merely good Credits.

The two do not always stack on the same chip payout. That looks like a bug rather than intended behaviour, and it is the one part of this setup Droidex has not pinned down. Run both anyway: the 4x lands often enough to matter, and the floor is still 2x.

Credits and Nova only get the single DJ R-3X doubling. A Rainbow Nova result is recorded as 3 crystals, and the one-hour test paid 6 on its one drop, which is that doubling showing up in the total.

Farming the Rainbows

The travel time between opens is what this route optimises, so the movement pattern matters more than the sweep order.

• Sweep the cluster and open a Rainbow crate the moment you see one.
• Recheck the nearby spawn points immediately, including the spot you just opened.
• Double back rather than continuing in one direction. A Rainbow can respawn behind you or where you just were.
• When both Rainbows respawn outside the cluster, lap the map, open them, and give the spawn system another roll at putting one back inside.
• Return to the cluster as soon as one comes back. Do not restart the setup and do not start opening parked Gold and Diamond crates again.

Sometimes you will open both Rainbows and have one or both respawn back inside the cluster. That is the good case. Losing both to the far side of the map is the normal cost of the route, not a broken setup.

What wastes the most time

• Smashing every Super Crate you fly past. Opening a Gold crate returns a Gold crate; the rarity does not reroll, so it is a spawn point you just re-entered the lottery for.
• Opening the Gold and Diamond crates you deliberately parked outside the cluster. They are doing their job by sitting there.
• Flying one large lap after every Rainbow open, which walks away from a crate that may have respawned within seconds of you.
• Waiting for a perfect setup. Most of the Gold and Diamond crates out of the area is enough for the route to work.

Public or private lobby?

A private lobby is not required. The one-hour test used one so the results could be tracked without interference, but the method works in public lobbies.

The one thing that breaks it is another player farming Super Crates the ordinary way. Every Gold and Diamond crate they open can respawn inside the area you cleared, and enough of that turns a compact Rainbow route back into a map-wide hunt.

What one hour actually gave

One recorded hour of this route, running both companions, in a private lobby.

At the recorded 1.4% chance, a Nova drop averages about one per 71 Rainbow crates opened, or about one per 266 before any Rainbow hats are owned. One drop in an hour is what that rate looks like.

The run did not record how many crates were opened, so Droidex is not publishing a crates-per-hour figure from it. Credits and Upgrade Chips are the reliable output of this farm; Nova is the lottery ticket you get more of by opening faster.

Super Crates are not Mega Crates

Mega Crates are a separate system on a schedule, and v1.24.1 restored their appearances at 00:00 and 00:30. Nothing in this route changes Mega Crate timing, and the same-rarity respawn rule does not apply to them.
